As a child, Director Craig Atkinson had an up-close view of policing through his father, an officer in a town just outside of Detroit and a SWAT team member for 13 years. So it was with some surprise that he began to notice the growing presence of military equipment in everyday domestic police work. The making of Do Not Resist was his attempt to understand what had changed. Traveling to conventions and expos, riding along with SWAT teams, and on the ground in Ferguson, Missouri, Atkinson brings us is a disturbing picture of how our domestic police forces have become increasingly tied to military practice and equipment. This is a film that will give audiences a lot to talk and think about it.
