Augusto Zegarra, 2025

In South America, some 10 million people speak Quechua, yet no major film has ever been dubbed into the language. Fernando Valencia, a radio host and independent dubbing artist in Cusco, Peru, wants to change that. Aided by his young son Dylan, Fernando dubs scenes from famous films into Quechua and uploads them to the internet, giving millions of Quechua speakers the chance to experience these glimpses of cinematic magic in their own language. But Fernando's dream is to create a full Quechua dub of his all-time favorite film, The Lion King. There’s just one formidable obstacle—he needs to get the go-ahead from the Walt Disney Company.

Augusto Zegarra’s debut feature documentary, Runa Simi, winner of the Best New Documentary Director Award at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Youth Jury Award at Sheffield DocFest 2025, is a deeply moving testament to the idea that cinema can do more than entertain: it can inspire people to change the world.
