Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami, 2015

14-year-old Afghan refugee Sonita Alizadeh lives illegally in Iran and attends school at a children's protection agency. She dreams of being the lovechild of Rihanna and Michael Jackson and despite cultural prohibitions spends her free time writing and performing rap music. When Sonita's family makes a plan to sell her as a bride, director Maghami is faced with a difficult choice: Should she cross the line between documentary filmmaker and subject and rescue the immensely talented and charismatic Sonita? This inspiring film should not be missed. Winner of the 2016 Sundance Grand Jury and Audience Awards for Best World Cinema Documentary.

90 min. / Germany, Iran, Switzerland (English Subtitles)
