Ahmir (Questlove) Thompson, 2021

(...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)

During the same summer that Woodstock took place, a host of notable African-American musicians entertained 300,000 people at the Harlem Cultural Festival just 100 miles away. The entertainers included Nina SImone, B.B. King, Sly and the Family Stone, the 5th Dimension, Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, and Gladys Night and the Pips, to name just a few. Working largely from footage that was shot over 50 years ago—but never seen until now—Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson takes us on a cultural, political, and musical journey back to 1969. A joyous and important story that was almost lost to history.
