Damien Chazelle, 2014

Recently re-released for its 10th anniversary, Damien Chazelle's Whiplash tells the story of a promising young drummer (Miles Teller) whose tyrannical music conservatory teacher (J.K. Simmons) pushes the limits of his talent and sanity. Tom Cross won the 2015 Oscar for Best Editing for the film's pulsating, jazz-inspired style.
